Double unders and SDLHP
2 Dec
Climb at gym
I went to the gym with SWS with the intent of sending #42 (the bouldering problem I’ve been obsessed with). It didn’t happen. It felt like my body wasn’t warming up properly. I felt heavy and problems I had easily sent 1st try a couple of weeks ago felt hard. I tried the problem a few times and threw in the towel. I think I wasn’t recovered from my session on Monday, which was fabulous.
Workout
As many rounds in 20 minutes of:
25 Unbroken Double Unders
15 SDLHP
My result:
1.5hrs of double under practice
I received notice that my picture was on Crossfit Calgary today and decided to do their WOD. When I emailed SWS about doing this workout today, his response was: “Unbroken double unders would take me ∞”. I’ve been practicing and thought it might be possible today. I was mistaken. I find it very frustrating I can’t string twenty-five together. I’m determined to get double unders dialed so that I’m ready for the next “flight simulator workout”. If anyone has advice on technique, I’d like to hear it.
I’ve only done them at the end of the filthy 50 where “unbroken” is laughable. But I did discover that when the legs are tired you can make up for high jumps with backward knee bend to get those clod-hoppers out of the way. A two-legged butt-kicker.
But I’m still alternating one double-under, one single under. Not sure if the knee-bends are going to help, but it is something to try.
I’m trying to avoid the donkey kick because I think it will just form a bad habit. Everyone I’ve seen who is good at DUs keeps their feet very close to the ground. Check out these videos:
